Robin Sterneck, business leader and corporate, civic and NACD Heartland Chapter board member, led the fireside chat with Mike to highlight boardroom applications and themes from the soon to be released 2017 Report of the NACD Blue Ribbon Commission on Culture as a Corporate Asset.

SPEAKER BIO: Michael G. Kulp, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, KBP Investments
For nearly two decades, Michael Kulp’s passion for creating “A Great Place to Work, A Great Place to Eat and A Great Place to Own” has culminated in the creation of a unique culture at KBP Investments. Through his leadership, the company has realized exceptional growth and helped dozens of key leaders realize true equity ownership – reaping the benefits of their hard work. Michael’s vision for growth has catapulted the company to 7 consecutive years of 35% cumulative annual growth, making it one of the largest franchises in the U.S. and one of the largest YUM! Brands franchises in the world. Much of this growth has been fueled through the successful integration of more than 20 acquisitions across 20 states, onboarding more than 13,000 employees.
Over the past decade, Michael has established an impressive track record of financial performance. KBP has produced average returns to its institutional investors of greater than five times invested capital every 4 years, and an average of over six times return on invested capital to its management equity holders over this same time frame.
Michael is very active in leadership roles within franchising. He serves the YUM! Brands community with roles on the KFC® U.S. Board of Directors, the U.S. Brand Committee as one of two U.S. franchise representatives, and as the sole U.S. representative on the YUM! Global Franchise Council.
Additionally, Michael and his wife Stephanie are dedicated to supporting non-profit organizations in every market in which KBP operates, creating a connection between employees and the local community. Under their leadership, KBP will donate more than $1.7 million and 30,000 volunteer hours to local charities in 2017. Additionally, their recognition of the hardships that KBP’s employees constantly face resulted in the launch of KBP Cares in 2014. Stephanie serves as President of KBP Cares, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization/employee assistance program affiliated with and supported by KBP Foods and its employees. In 2017, KBP Cares plans to grant more than $300,000 to help employees who are victims of unforeseen hardships, including medical emergencies, natural disasters or crime. Over 75% of KBP’s employees donate to this program through payroll deduction.
Michael holds a Bachelor’s degree from Colorado Mesa University in Business with an emphasis in marketing.

Robin P. Sterneck is a seasoned executive and board director who brings 30 years of business and leadership experience to her keynotes, workshops, roundtables, best practice coaching sessions, corporate training and real life story telling.
Robin’s work as a Senior Investment Banker at Lehman Brothers, Financial Services roles at GE and then as a $1B P&L Leader, Global Marketing Director and Head of Talent Development at GE Capital’s Insurance business and after the acquisition by Swiss Re, arm her with a broad breadth of first-hand experience and strategies. Her tools and skills remain relevant today as a result of having founded her own firm, Highland Birch Group, a leadership consulting firm, and from serving as President of a successful family owned wealth management business.
As a NACD Fellow, Robin also currently serves as an independent director and Compensation and Human Capital Chairperson for the board of EPR Properties (“EPR”) and as a Director for SurveySaurus. She is a founding member of the Kansas City Chapter of Women Corporate Directors, a Director on the National Association of Corporate Directors (“NACD”) Heartland Chapter Board and an NACD Fellow. She is a member, speaker and program facilitator at the Central Exchange, a leading professional women’s organization.
Robin’s ongoing work with more than 75 companies and not-for-profit organizations enables her to simultaneously share time-tested and fresh perspectives to emerging and seasoned leaders in both high performing and transitional organizational cultures. As a business president, co-founder of two major international women’s networks, a global talent developer and a mentor to scores of professionals, she uniquely brings macro- and micro-perspectives for advancing tomorrow’s leaders.
Robin’s current and recent community leadership roles include the Pembroke Hill School Board, Fund Raising and Leadership Development Vice Chair roles for the J Community Center, Board and Audit Committee member for the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation and Chair of WIN for KC, a division of the KC Sports Commission. Keeping up with the active lives of four children and working out keeps Robin happy and busy the rest of her waking hours.
